Police following tips in retired professor's death

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Tuscaloosa police say they're following up on numerous tips from the public in the slaying of a retired University of Alabama professor last month.

The Tuscaloosa News reports (http://bit.ly/10vtaKb ) Capt. Loyd Baker, commander of the police homicide unit, says dozens of people have called investigators to report suspicious activity and potential suspects in the killing of 73-year-old Kate Ragsdale.

Ragsdale was found dead in her home Feb. 24 is Tuscaloosa's Highlands neighborhood. Police said a week ago they believe her killer is likely a young person who lives in the same area.

Baker says police suspect Ragsdale's killer would probably have shown "tremendous behavioral changes" in the days after the slaying. He says the killer's friends and family would likely notice those changes.
