Alabama girl dies in Lowndes County crash

CALEDONIA, Miss. (AP) — A 13-year-old Vernon, Ala. girl was killed over the weekend in a one-vehicle accident on Highway 12 in Lowndes County.

Authorities say paramedics and police responded to an accident early Saturday about two miles from the Alabama state line.

Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant said Janet Lea York was killed when the car in which she was a passenger flipped and hit some trees.

The driver, whose name and age have not been released, left the scene and later was transported to a local hospital.
