OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) — Opelika police are seeking suspects after a man was found lying on a city sidewalk, shot in the abdomen. He later died at a hospital.
The Opelika-Auburn News reports (http://bit.ly/14RyNiy) that police found the man on Cherry Circle around 3:10 p.m. Sunday. He was taken to East Alabama Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead around 11:35 p.m. Sunday.
Police identified the man as 39-year-old Harvey Pete Sanford of Opelika.
Opelika Police Capt. Bruce DeLong said witnesses reported hearing several gunshots and seeing a vehicle described as a gray or silver Mercedes Benz speeding from the area after the shooting.
