BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Two Alabama teenagers are using YouTube in an attempt to change how sex education is taught in the state.
WBRC-TV reports (http://bit.ly/11mSyyl) that Sarah Noone objects to a portion of Alabama state law involving how homosexuality should be handled in public school instruction.
At issue is an Alabama law requiring certain contents to be included in sex education instruction. The law states that curriculum should emphasize that homosexuality "is not a lifestyle acceptable to the general public" and that it is a criminal offense under Alabama law.
So far, Sarah Noone and Adam Pratt have received more than 80,000 signatures in their online petition which aims to get the law changed.
