GADSDEN, Ala. (AP) — Police say a 52-year-old Gadsden man is charged with one count of arson and one count of attempted murder in connection with a string of house fires.
Gadsden Detective Sgt. Lane Keener says David Roger Shields is being held in the Etowah County Detention Center on a $200,000 bond after investigators say evidence from two fires linked Shields to the crimes.
The Gadsden Times reports that Keener says Shields is charged with one count of arson and one count of attempted murder.
The seven house fires began early Saturday with what officials call a small fire on a back porch.
Jason Talton, investigator with the Gadsden Fire Department, says the second fire was much larger.
Keener says four of the residences were occupied, but there were no injuries.
