FAIRHOPE, Ala. (AP) — Police are investigating the shootings of two children at a home in Fairhope which left one of them dead.
Fairhope police Sgt. Craig Sawyer tells WALA-TV that the older of the two children, a little girl, died after the Thursday shootings in a mobile home in the south Alabama town.
Police tell WKRG-TV the younger child, a 3-year-old, was flown to USA Medical Center. His condition wasn't known.
Authorities say they responded to the scene shortly after 6 p.m. after reports of gunfire next to the Jubilee Mobile Home Park off Hwy 181 in Fairhope.
Sawyer says he was one of the first on seen and when he arrived, the children were on the ground.
Police say the circumstances of the shootings aren't known, but the children were shot with a rifle.
