Person of interest in truck bombing case dead

PARRISH, Ala. (AP) — Authorities are investigating the death of a “person of interest” in the July 29 Parrish truck bombing.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives say they responded to the scene of a possible suicide on Aug. 4 in Jefferson County near Walker County. Special agent in charge Jim Cavanaugh says the man died last week but would neither identify him nor give further details about the circumstances of his death.

Michael Clayton Earnest, 52, and Keith Lawson, 42, have been charged with criminal possession of a destructive device in the case. The plot is described as a “murder for hire” and Frank Gene Weems Jr. was injured in the blast.
