TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Guy Bailey has taken over as the new president of the University of Alabama.
The two-time university graduate began work Tuesday at the campus in Tuscaloosa. He replaces Robert Witt, who is now chancellor of the three-campus system.
Bailey will spend his first few days getting meeting students and faculty and determining priorities. He says he also is looking forward to building a relationship with football coach Nick Saban, whose team is now ranked No. 1 in the country.
Bailey says one of his priorities is expanding the university's research capabilities and funding.
Bailey came to Alabama from Texas Tech University. The Alabama native had been president there since 2008.
