— COLUMBIANA, Ala. (AP) — Sheriff's officials outside Birmingham are investigating the deaths of two people found dead inside an apartment.
Shelby County sheriff's officials say deputies responded to a report of shots fired around 5 p.m. Monday at the Lakes of Inverness apartments.
Authorities say residents of nearby apartments were evacuated until officers could determine that the area was safe. Once inside the apartment, officers say they found the bodies of an adult male and an adult female.
Deputies also found a young child, who was physically unharmed.
Investigators are trying to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths. They were withholding the identities of the people found dead until positive identification was made and relatives had been notified.
