State budgets center stage at Alabama Legislature

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Budgets are taking center stage at the Alabama Legislature.

Senate leaders say the Senate will take up the General Fund budget on Wednesday. The budget has already passed the House.

The chairman of the House Ways and Means-Education Committee, Republican Rep. Jay Love, says his committee will vote on the education budget Wednesday. Love is proposing a slightly different version than passed the Senate. The committee's version of the budget could come up for a vote in the House on Thursday.

The Legislature is trying to wrap up work on the budgets because it has only two meeting days left after Wednesday.
