Ala. man sentenced in high-speed fatal crash

DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) — A Gordon man has been sentenced to a year in jail after he pleaded guilty to felony manslaughter for causing the death of his fiancee in a high-speed car accident.

Circuit Court Judge Butch Binford gave 28-year-old Shaun Cast a five-year sentence on Monday, with one year to serve in Houston County Community Corrections and four years probation.

Prosecutors say Cast drove at speeds approaching 140 mph on U.S. 231 last year. They say his car struck another vehicle and flipped end over end, but that the other driver was not injured.

The Dothan Eagle reports Cast’s attorney, Derek Yarbrough, says his client has undergone several surgeries following the crash. He says the case was resolved fairly.
