Man in custody after standoff in Auburn



AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Auburn police say they took a suspect into custody after a standoff that lasted more than 10 hours at a residence on East University Drive.

The Opelika-Auburn News reports (http://bit.ly/JzjjIL) that the suspect was apprehended early Tuesday morning.

Officers responded around 6 p.m. Monday to a call of a suspect firing shots at a motorist. Auburn Police Chief Tommy Dawson says the suspect, who was described as being armed, then barricaded himself inside his home.

Dawson said officers fired tear gas into the residence in an attempt to get the suspect to come outside. Police took the suspect into custody around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The suspect's name was not released.
