GULF SHORES, Ala. (AP) — Workers in Gulf Shores were scrambling to get beaches cleaned up and ready for Memorial Day weekend after the three-day Hangout Music Festival drew an estimated 35,000 music fans to Alabama's coast.
Event founder Shaul Zislin tells the Press-Register (http://bit.ly/MCVRwH) that the cleanup effort was the third phase of the festival.
Grant Brown, director of recreation and cultural affairs for the city, said the expanded site for this year's festival worked well.
Gulf Shores police Sgt. Jason Woodruff says the department made 24 arrests related to the music festival, with 13 arrests for possession of marijuana, seven for disorderly conduct and the remaining for public intoxication.
