9 plead guilty in Premier Tax investigation

— MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Nine people associated with a tax preparation firm headquartered in Montgomery have now pleaded guilty in a scheme involving more than $1 million.

The Justice Department announced Friday that Premier Tax owner Bruce King and tax return preparer Vonecia Orum are the latest to plead guilty to tax law violations. Seven others associated with the firm pleaded guilty earlier.

Prosecutors said King taught tax preparers at Premier Tax how to falsify tax returns to increase the clients' tax refunds. The tax loss caused by the fraudulent returns exceeded $1 million.

Premier Tax was based in Montgomery and had several locations in Alabama and Georgia.
