MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley and Public Safety Director Hugh McCall have recorded an introduction for a videotape about the dangers of texting while driving.
The videotape called "The Last Text" will be shown to driver education classes across Alabama. In the messages, the governor and McCall urge students to heed warnings to not send text messages while driving. A new law banning texting while driving in Alabama took effect Aug. 1.
The video includes comments from people affected by texting while driving accidents. That includes interviews with friends of a girl who was killed in a texting-related accident.
Bentley said he is trying to tell students there is no text message they could send that would be worth putting someone's life in danger.
