Alabama senator holds 1,800th constituent meeting

FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) — Richard Shelby has reached a milestone in his long U.S. Senate career.

The Republican senator held his 1,800th town hall meeting Monday in Florence.

Shelby said he set a goal when he became a senator 26 years ago to visit all 67 Alabama counties every year to talk with constituents. He said he's met that goal every year and plans to continue the meetings as long as he serves.

Shelby said nothing can replace talking to voters face to face.
