The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Limestone County will hold a rally to launch its fundraising drive Sept. 27 at the Limestone County Event Center.
The rally will honor cancer survivors and feature speakers from the community who have benefited from the money raised at Relay For Life.
The rally begins at 6 p.m. at the Event Center at 114 W. Pryor St. in Athens. This also will be the first opportunity to register a team for the overnight event to be held from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. May 3, 2013, at Athens Sportsplex.
Relay For Life began in 1985 with one man who walked and ran around a track for 24 hours and raised $27,000 for the American Cancer Society. Each year, Relay For Life takes place in 5,000 communities in the United States and 20 other countries to raise money to support the society’s mission to save lives, to help people get well and stay well, and to find cures for cancer.
To join a Relay For Life team in your community, call 1-800-227-2345 or 256-536-1863, or go online to RelayForLife.org or to www.relayforlife.org/limestoneal after Sept. 6.
