Gadsden City coach charged with sexual crimes


GADSDEN, Ala. (AP) — A Gadsden high school coach and teacher faces sex crimes following his arrest for second-degree rape.

Etowah County District Attorney Jimmie Harp said 26-year-old Nicholas Keith Smith of Southside was arrested Monday afternoon.

Smith was accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old female student.

Smith, an assistant baseball coach, was also charged with possession of obscene materials.

Harp said additional charges are possible.
