Kayaker drowns in Tallapoosa River

TALLASSEE, Ala. (AP) — A 22-year-old man was found dead after his kayak overturned in the Tallapoosa River.

Tallassee Fire Chief Matt Missildine said rescue workers found the man’s body in the water Sunday at about 10 a.m. The man was reported missing Friday.

Missildine witthheld the man’s name, but said the victim is believed to be a student from out of town.

Authorities said the man likely drowned under heavy currents.
