Robbery possible motive in Hoover woman’s death

HOOVER, Ala. (AP) — Authorities said its likely a robbery attempt was the motive behind the fatal shooting of a Hoover woman.

Police believe two teenagers selected and targeted 52-year-old Doris Jean Bennett while she walked her dog near the Galleria shopping center.

The shooting occurred Monday night at about 7:30 p.m.

Bennett died the next day.

Hoover Police Chief Nick Derzis said at a news conference Wednesday, 16-year-old Lamont Shields of Hoover and 17-year-old Brandon Solomon Foster of Birmingham were arrested within an hour of the shooting.

Both teens were charged with capital murder.
