Honda to cut Ala. production; no job cuts planned

LINCOLN, Ala. (AP) — Honda Manufacturing of Alabama will reduce production at its Lincoln plant, but the company said no layoffs are planned.

Honda will halt production for two days in August and will not have a second shift each Friday in August, September and October. The changes are expected to be temporary.

Honda announced the production cut back, which is based on consumer demand, on Monday.

The company has about 4,500 employees in Alabama, where it produces Odyssey minivans and Pilot sport utility vehicles.

While production is stopped, empoloyees can choose to come to work for non-production jobs, use vacation time or take time off with no pay and no penalty for not being at work.
