The Ardmore High School athletic department is gearing up for a special night in the coming weeks.
On Friday, Sept. 24, the Tigers are teaming up with the Melissa George Neonatal Fund and the Huntsville Hospital Foundation to host “Playing for Preemies” when they take the field against Clements for a non-region football game.
In addition to t-shirts being sold, students at Ardmore High, Cedar Hill and Johnson Elementary can buy a $1 chance to pie their principal in the face during a pep rally at each of the schools. The Huntsville Hospital Foundation will also have a donation and informational booth set up at the game that night. All money raised from the event will go to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Huntsville Hospital.
“The NICU is very special to me and my wife, as our 5-month old daughter spent the first 52 days of her life there,” Ardmore High athletic director and assistant principal Rusty Bates said. “We are so grateful for the nurses and doctors that made our stay as comforting as it could be in such a stressful time. We are excited about the opportunity to give back to such a great group of people.”
The NICU nurses will serve as honorary captains for the coin toss before the game.
