Win over Colbert County important for Colts

— It may just be one win, but for the Clements football team, Friday night’s win meant a lot.

Not only were the Colts able to notch their first region win of the year since making the move back to Class 3A, but they also gave Michael Brown his first victory as a head football coach as they defeated Colbert County 18-6.

“Sometimes you get rewarded for working hard, and they needed it,” Brown said. “I know it’s just one win, but it meant a lot to them to get a win. It meant a lot to me too, and I think that’s part of the reason it meant so much to them.”

Over all, Brown said he was overwhelmingly pleased with his team ‘s effort and the way they responded, bouncing back from a tough 49-17 loss to West Limestone to open the season last week.

“We were more patient on offense, and played better on defense this week,” Brown said. “It was an improvement.”

Though the Colts have another region matchup with Danville coming up, they haven’t turned their focus to them just yet. Brown wants them to enjoy the victory while they can the rest of the weekend before taking the practice field Monday.

“I told them to enjoy the day because tomorrow is not guaranteed, and yesterday is gone.”

Kick off between Clements and Danville is set for 7 p.m. Friday at M.T. Newman Stadium.
