Indians open with win over Ardmore

East Limestone’s varsity boys’ basketball team opened their season Friday night with a 76-63 win over Ardmore.

The Indians’ led 35-32 at halftime and never trailed.

Mario Matthews led East Limestone with 23 points and 14 rebounds. London Brandon added 18. DeMarco Rogers had 14 points Chris Harris added 10.

Kevin Shelton scored a game high 32 points for the Tigers. Kyle Jordan had 14 and Jonathan Shannon 12.



Girls

The Athens High Girls’ basketball team opened their season at the Cullman Tip-off Tournament defeating Clay Chalkville 42-32 in the opening game.

Elizabeth Ming led Athens with 13 points. Destany McLin added 11, and Ashley Jackson nine.

In game two, Athens defeated Plainview 46-44.

Lecresha Horton scored a team-high 15 points. Ciera Jones added eight points and 10 rebounds.

In the final game against Hayden, the Lady Golden Eagles fell 61-45. Ming led Athens with 11 points. Jones grabbed 13 rebounds.



Ardmore 65, East 40

Ashley Miles and Kelsey Gilbert paced the Lady Tigers Friday night with 11 points each. Callie Steadman added eight points and 14 rebounds.

For East Limestone, Rachel Diamond had 12 points. Shaza Robinson had 11 points and nine rebounds while Bailey Speer added eight points.
