In first-round playoff action at Elkmont, the Red Devils played host to the Vinemont Eagles. Both teams entered the contest with 7-3 records, and it looked like a good matchup. It was anything but, as Elkmont won in a rout, 56-7.
The first quarter was a defensive struggle, with the only score coming when Elkmont’s David Petty blocked a Vinemont punt, and then recovered in the end zone.
The Eagles came back to score on the opening drive of the second quarter, when Reno Jones found Tyler Jackson in the end zone, knotting the score at 7-7. From there, it was all Elkmont.
Over the next eight minutes, Elkmont would score five touchdowns, pushing the halftime lead to 42-7. During this span, Red Devil Quarterback Dylan Brazeal threw five touchdown passes, three to Hayden Huseth, and one each to Cole Glass and Levi Gant.
All of the second half scoring would come from the Elkmont defense, as both Skyler Gant and Hunter Day returned interceptions for touchdowns.
After the game, Elkmont QB Dylan Brazeal said that he knew his receivers were faster, and that Coach Jacobs’ plan was to throw the ball. Wide receiver Hayden Huseth echoed his teammate, adding that the line did a great job of blocking, giving them time to get open, and he knew Dylan could get them the ball.
Elkmont will travel to Hamilton in second round action next Friday night.
