The Elkmont Red Devils kicked off its 2010 season with an impressive 42-21 win over rival Ardmore Friday night.
The two teams battled back and forth in an action-packed first half that ended 21-21.
Ardmore struck first on a 54-yard touchdown pass from J. Tribble to Michael Fogg. Elkmont answered with an 80-yard drive and scored on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Hayden Huseth to Cole Glass.
The Tigers threw another punch when Tribble found Matt Teeples for a 5-yard touchdown pass with 8:42 to go in the second quarter putting Ardmore on top 14-7. One minute later, Cole Glass took the speed sweep around the corner for an 11-yard touchdown run to tie the game.
After forcing an Ardmore punt, Elkmont would score again on a 31-yard pass from Huseth to Connor Anderson. Ardmore answered just before halftime with a 16-yard touchdown pass from Tribble to Fogg. It would be the last time the Tigers found the end zone.
Elkmont took control of the game in the second half. The Red Devils scored on their first possession and never looked back. Hunter Day scored from 47 yards out to put Elkmont up 28-21.
Day scored again with 1:36 left in the third quarter from 3 yards out to make it a 35-21 Red Devil lead.
Hayden Huseth added a 10-yard touchdown run in the final quarter to seal the 42-21 Elkmont victory.
