ABS places 2nd in weekend tourney

Athens Bible finished second in the Randolph volleyball tournament over the weekend, falling to Westminster Christian in the finals.

In pool play, the second-ranked Lady Trojans defeated New Hope 25-15, 23-25 and 15-11 before beating Whitesburg Christian 25-14, 25-18. They fell to Westminster Christian 26-24, 24-15 in the final match of pool play. In the tournament, Athens Bible defeated Parkway Christian 25-14, 25-11, advancing to take on Lee in the semifinals, where they picked up a 25-21, 25-18 win.

Makayla Melvin had 45 kills and 13 aces for the tournament. E.A. Shaver had 53 kills, 50 assists and 11 aces. Ceci Ivey had 20 kills, followed by Mallorie Coward with 47 assists. Mallory Bauer had 35 digs, while Emily Irwin accounted for 20.

The Lady Trojans (10-4) are in action again today at Decatur Heritage, where they will face the Lady Eagles and West Limestone.
