A little rain and soggy conditions didn’t stop several Limestone County schools from playing preseason jamborees Thursday night. Several were also on tap Friday night, including Athens at Decatur, which was re-scheduled due to the inclement Thursday.
Also scheduled were Ardmore vs. Butler and Clements at Central Florence.
In Thursday action, West Limestone traveled to Priceville, beating the Bulldogs 55-12.
Priceville scored with seven minutes left in the first quarter on a 10-yard pass, but the Wildcats quickly answered with a 10-yard run by Jake Holland. The 2-point conversion was no good.
West Limestone scored again with 2:03 remaining on a 67-yard punt return by Alex Taylor for the 12-6 lead.
Holland scored again with 5:38 left on the clock before halftime on a 21-yard run. The 2-point conversion by Holland was good. Holland added a 6-yard touchdown at the 3:45 mark. The 2-point conversion by Taylor was good. Brady Phillips connected with Taylor on a 46-yard pass with 1:45 on the clock. Luke Nicholson’s point after attempt was good. The Bulldogs scored with 50 seconds remaining on a 45-yard touchdown, but the 2-point conversion failed, giving West Limestone a 35-12 lead.
Willie Rivera scored on a 19-yard run for West Limestone with four minutes remaining in the third quarter. In the fourth, Rivera connected with Andrew Martin on a 71-yard pass. Nicholson’s PAT was good.
The Wildcats last score of the game came when defensive lineman Seth Pierce picked off a pass, running it back 38 yards for a touchdown. Nicholson’s extra point was good.
Holland finished the night with eight carriers for 65 yards and three touchdowns. Blankenship had two carries for 58 yards.
Quarterback Brady Phillips was 4-of-8 for 65 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Rivera was 1-of-1 for 71 yards and one touchdown.
In other jamborees Thursday night, Tanner defeated West Morgan 13-0 and Elkmont beat Falkville 28-7.
