Not long ago, Julius Jones stood in the home economics room at Athens High School taking in all that goes along with National Signing Day.
Jones, just a freshman at the time, watched as members of the media captured his brother Karlos signing on the dotted line to continue his football career at Tennessee Martin.
It was then the youngest Jones decided he wanted to follow in his brother’s footsteps, and three years later, found himself sitting in the same spot as Karlos once did.
On Wednesday, Julius signed to play football at Alabama State.
“He (Karlos) gave me plenty of advice,” Julius said. “He showed me what to do and the whole process.”
Julius received offers from Alabama A&M;, Arkansas Sate, Kentucky, Western Kentucky, UNA and Miami Ohio but said he chose Alabama State over the others because of the possible opportunities.
“I really liked it there,” Julius said. “I felt comfortable there and the coaches were great, plus I’ll probably have a good opportunity to play.”
Due to a commitment at school, Karlos wasn’t able to make it to his brother’s signing Wednesday but spoke by phone about the special day.
“I’m proud of him,” Karlos said. “I didn’t have any doubt he would play college football, I just didn’t know where he would go.”
Julius said after talking with coaches that he would most likely play receiver for the Hornets.
