West Limestone gets big 49-17 win over county rival Clements

COXEY — David Arnsparger didn’t have much to complain about Friday night.

After all, according to the West Limestone coach, his team did just what they had prepared to do. In the end, they reaped the rewards as they defeated Clements 49-17 in the opening game of the season.

“The kids played hard and did what they were supposed to do when they were supposed to do it,” Arnsparger said. “We were able to capitalize on a couple of their mistakes, and a lot of that is just hard play and Wildcat football right now.”

West Limestone (1-0) opened the scoring with 9:12 remaining in the first quarter on a 30-yard run by Willie Rivera. Jake Blankenship’s kick made it 7-0.

Alex Taylor found the end zone again on the Wildcat’s next possession with a 7-yard run. Blankenships’ point after attempt was good, increasing West Limestone’s lead to 14 to end the quarter.  Jake Holland added another touchdown to begin the second quarter on a 2-yard run, making it 21-0.

After the kickoff, the Wildcats capitalized on a Clements turnover as Blankenship recovered a Colts fumble on the 20-yard line for a touchdown. His extra point attempt made it 28-0.

West Limestone capitalized again on a Clements turnover the following play for a four-play Wildcat touchdown to make it 35-0 at the half.

West Limestone added two more touchdowns in the third quarter, before Clements got on the board on a 20-yard field goal by Bronson Warren. The Colts only other score of the game came on a 7-yard run by Lamac Askins in the fourth quarter.
