Auburn president urges support for football team

— AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Auburn University President Jay Gogue says the school's struggling football program will be evaluated, and he's asking fans to support the team for now.

Gogue issued a statement Thursday saying he's been contacted by many fans in the past few weeks. The Tigers are 1-6 under coach Gene Chizik for the team's worst start in 60 years.

Gogue says he shares many of the fans' concerns about football. He says the program will be evaluated as it is each year in an "objective, thorough and professional process."

Gogue says there's a time for everything, and now it's time for fans to support the team.

The Tigers host Southeastern Conference newcomer and 22nd-ranked Texas A&M on Saturday night. Auburn has lost its first five SEC games.
