The 27th Annual Limestone Sheriff’s Rodeo culminated recently with the crowning of 21-year-old Dakota Missildine of Grady as Miss Limestone Rodeo 200.
The daughter of Pam and Todd Missildine, Dakota is a senior broadcast journalism major at Troy University. She currently serves as Troy’s women’s rodeo team captain and she competes in breakaway roping, goat tying and barrel racing. She is a member of the 3.0 GPA Athlete Club, Student Athletic Advisory Committee and a sports anchor for the Trojan Vision News.
Dakota has held many rodeo queen titles including Miss Alabama Junior Rodeo Association, Miss Alabama High School Rodeo Association, Miss Professional Cowboy Association and First Alternate Miss Southeastern Livestock Exposition.
Dakota plans to pursue a career in the broadcasting and public relations fields surrounding the rodeo industry. She hopes to establish her own business teaching rodeo pageantry to young people, specializing in personality, appearance, poise, and the history of rodeo and the Western way of life.
Dakota also won the speech and photogenic awards. She received a custom-made trophy saddle, jewelry, and a scholarship.
“This rodeo and its pageant are well known all over the Southeast as one of the premier events of all pageants,” she said. “I am honored to represent Athens and Limestone County promoting rodeo for the upcoming year. With the scholarship money, I will be able to pursue a second major in sign language and interpretation and that has always been a dream for me.”
“Dakota is a very classy young woman and we are fortunate to have her serve as our ambassador for this next year,” Sheriff Mike Blakely said. “She has a great deal of experience in rodeo events and pageantry, and we look forward to her reign as our 2009 Miss Limestone Rodeo.”
