HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers will be hosting the first annual D1 Iron Sharpens Iron Philip Rivers Offensive Skills Camp on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 7-8 from 9 am to 2 pm. The camp will be at the Huntsville High School football fields and open to ages 7 to 17.
The camp will feature 10 hours of instruction from Rivers along with local high school coaches and D1 training experts. In addition, the Philip Rivers Camp will encourage character development and life skills. Each participant will also receive lunch, camp T-shirt and the opportunity to win other prizes.
Rivers, the former Athens high school standout, has held a camp in the past in Raleigh, N.C., where he went to college. This will be Rivers’ first camp in the Rocket City with the D1 Sports staff, a facility that he co-owns in Jones Valley. The camp will be sponsored by The Orthopaedic Center (TOC) and Huntsville Hospital.
“It is fun for me to get more involved in the North Alabama community,” said Rivers. “I am excited to come back home and give the same instruction that I received when I was growing up in this area.”
Rivers was drafted in the first round with the fourth pick in the 2004 draft by the San Diego Chargers. His career totals include a Pro Bowl in 2006, 10,697 passing yards, and in 2008, Rivers had the highest quarterback rating in the NFL with a league leading 34 touchdown passes, 105.5 Passer Rating, and a league-best 8.4 yards per pass.
The cost of the camp will be $175 for the general public and $150 for D1 members. The registration deadline is Friday, June 19. For online registration or more information, go to D1SportsTraining.com/Huntsville or contact Mike Gregory at (615)415-4747 or mike.gregory@d1sportstraining.com
