Indians take 7-1 area win vs. Rebs

East Limestone’s baseball team defeated Butler 7-1 Saturday in Class 5A, Area 16 play.

The Indians got on the board in the first on a two-run shot by Daniel Tucker. East Limestone added two more runs in the second on singles by Seth Hughes and Cade Medley and three runs in the fourth, led by an RBI double by Medley. The Rebels scored their only run of the game in the sixth.

Corey Dunn was the winning pitcher, striking out six and walking two in 3 1/3 innings. Nathan Glaze appeared in relief, working 3 2/3 innings, striking out one and allowing one run on four hits.

The win improves East Limestone to 14-9. They travel to West Limestone Monday.



ABS 17, Skyline 1

Tyler Sherrod went the distance for the Trojans in his first career start on the mound, throwing a one-hitter and striking out 10.

Offensively, Athens Bible scored two runs in the first on doubles by Brett Westbrook and Jonathan Winland. Will Chumbley added an RBI single.

Chumbley’s grand slam was the highlight of the second inning, an inning that included 12 hits. Westbrook added a home run. Jesse Gibson had a triple. Connor Brown, Blake Jackson, Sherrod, Jordan Brewer, Tyler Cox, Hunter Cox and Cameron Abernathy all hit singles.

Westbrook finished the day 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Chumbley also finished 3-for-3 and had seven RBIs.

Athens Bible (14-4, 5-0) hosts Woodville at 4 p.m. Monday.

Friday’s games

Lawrence Co. 4, ABS 3

Jordan Pugh and Will Chumbley each had a home run in the Trojans loss.

Two of Lawrence County’s five hits were two-run home runs.

Pugh took the loss, hurling six innings and striking out 11.



East Limestone 12, Lee 4

The Indians scored three runs in the first, and three more in the second on singles by Seth Hughes and Corey Dunn. Lee rallied in the top of the third scoring three runs. In the home half of the inning, East added four more runs when Daniel Tucker and Nathan Dumont hit back-to-back home runs. Mansfield and Tournbough also scored, while Dunn added another RBI single.

Dumont was the winning pitcher, hurling a complete seven innings and allowing four runs on two hits.

In other games, Brooks swept Tanner 14-3 and 13-7.

In game one for the Rattlers, Landon Stephens was 2-for-3 with a single and a home run. Ryan Ledford was 1-for-3 with a single. Corey Ham was 1-for-2 with a triple. Josh McCaig and Austin Harris both were 1-for-2 with a single.

In game two, Ham scored twice and had two singles, a home run and two RBIs. Harris was 2-for-4 with a single and double. Zach Whitt was 1-for-2. McCaig and Ledford were 1-for-4.

Eddie Murphree’s girls team will start tournament play Thursday when they host Muscle Shoals at 7:30. The winner advances to the area championship Saturday at 7 p.m.
