The Clements High School track team had a strong first showing at their first sanctioned meet of the season on March 30 at Sheffield High School. The Colts came away with 10 medals,
Robert Altgilbers, Chris Colwell, Roger Good and Tre Washington won gold in the boys’ 4x800 meter relay. Good also won gold in the 1600 meter run.
Bailey Clounch, Alison Jay, Cynetria Malone and Bridgette Warren won silver in the girls’ 4x800 meter relay. Alison Jay won silver in the 800 meter run. Chelsea Haggermaker won silver in shot put. Good won silver in the boys’ 800 meter run, and Alex Barbre won silver in the boys’ javelin throw.
Jay was bronze medalist in the girls’ 1600 meter run and 3200 meter run. John Lungsford was bronze medalist in boys’ pole vault.
In addition to the above medalists in girls’ competition, Carson Gafford, Victoria Holland, Cynetria Malone and Jessica Petty placed ninth in the 4x100 meter relay; Gaford, Haggermaker, Holland and Petty placed fifth in the 4x400 meter relay; Petty placed sixth in the 100 meter dash; Tailar Whittmuss placed tenth in the 800 meter run; Sarah Page placed ninth in the 3200 meter run; Haggermaker place tenth in the 100 meter hurdles; Miranda Kelley placed seventh in the 300 meter hurdles; Petty placed fifth and Gafford placed seventh in the high jump; LuLu Malone placed sixth in shot put; Haggermaker placed sixth in javelin throw.
In other boys’ competition Lamac Askins, Corey Powell, Brandon Sanderfer and Tre Washington placed eighth in the 4x100 meter; Chris Colwell, Good, Washington and Devante Williams placed fourth in the 4x400 meter relay; Altgilbers placed ninth in the 1600 meter run and eighth in the 3200 meter run; Dedrick Barnett placed fifth in 300 meter hurdles; Tre Turner placed fourth and Williams placed sixth in the high jump; Cody Peden and Ben Gilbert tied for fourth in the pole vault; James Billiter placed sixth in the shot put and Andy Sanford placed ninth in the discus throw.
Overall, the girls’ team placed sixth in the meet, with the boys’ team placing fifth.
Clements travels to Sheffield again Thursday for their next meet.
