The Athens High School girls’ basketball team started the season on a high note Saturday by winning the Huntsville High Tip-Off Tournament.
The Lady Eagles beat Butler 62-40 in the semifinals in the afternoon before returning to the floor to beat Huntsville 48-38 for the championship.
Senior Elizabeth Schexnader led Athens in scoring, putting up 11 points against the Lady Rebels and 12 against Huntsville. LeCresha Horton added eight points against Butler.
In the championship game, the Lady Eagles got 10 points from Elizabeth Ming and eight each from Kajonica Hankins and Ciera Jones.
