Tanner wins at Red Bay, Lions rip Ardmore, Colts roll past Westminster

Tanner found success in the air and on the ground last night as they took charge in the second half and buried the Red Bay Tigers 41-14 to move their record to 7-0 for the year.

Rattlers Coach Laron White was understandably pleased.

“It felt good to get our first win ever at Red Bay. Our defense played the best second half defense they’ve played this year,” said White. “I felt going in that if we played well and kept our composure we could win the game.”

After a scoreless first quarter both teams combined for 35 points in the second quarter to break the game wide open. The Rattlers scored on the first play of the second quarter on an 8-yard run by Tray Cosby. Mark Adams kicked the extra point and the Rattlers led 7-0.

Red Bay answered on a 13-yard pass from Cody Palmer to Cody Tucker. Chase Lindsey made the kick to tie the score 6:01 to go in the quarter.

The Rattlers struck back on a 17-yard run by Cosby. Adams PAT gave Tanner a 14-7 lead. The Tigers answered with a 63-yard run from Cody Tucker. Lindsey tied the game at 14-14.

Tanner scored again at the 2:57 mark on a 1-yard run by Marquis McDonald set up one play earlier by McDonald’s 50-yard run. Adams gave the Rattlers a 21-14 halftime lead.

Tanner added two scores in the third quarter. Three plays into the quarter Cosby found the end zone on a 56-yard run. Adams kick made it 28-14.

With 5:41 to go in the third, Cosby scored again on a 20-yard run. After a 5-yard penalty on the PAT the Rattlers tried and failed a two-point conversion leaving the score 34-14.

Tanner’s last score came on the first play of the fourth quarter, an 11-yard pass from Dominique Randolph to Marquis McDonald. Adams kick was good to make it 41-14.

Tanner moves to 7-0 for the year.

Tray Cosby led the Tanner offensive assault with 21 carries for 180 yards and 4 touchdowns.

“He’s a tough kid who always gives 100 percent,” White said of Cosby.

Brooks 48, Ardmore 20

KILLEN, Ala. – The Ardmore Tigers turned the ball over four times including two costly interceptions within short range of their end zone to fall to the Brooks Lions 48-20 last night.

The Tigers trailed by only seven points near the half when an interception set Brooks up at the Ardmore 20. The break was quickly converted to a touchdown and the Tigers held a 21-7 lead and momentum as both teams left the field for halftime.

Brooks added 13 points in the third quarter and another touchdown in the fourth.

Ardmore scoring came on a fumble recovery in the Brooks end zone by Tucker Wilder in the first quarter and two fourth quarter scores, a 43-yard pass from J Tribble to Matt Peoples and a 25-yard Tribble scoring pass to Jarred Atchley.

The Tiger defense held highly touted running back Kenyatta Roach to just 39 yards rushing but total yards for the Lions included 237 yards passing and 149 on the ground.

Offensively, Ardmore was 13 of 32 for 182 yards passing including 110 yards and two touchdowns from Tribble. Running back Owen Kilmury added 49 yards on seven rushes for the Tigers.

Clements 47, W’minster 12

Clements quarterback Jamison Bridges three five touchdown passes including three to receiver Seth Bachelor to help steamroll the Colts pass West Minster 47-12 last night.

Both teams scored twice in the first quarter but it was all Clements after that as they rolled up 255 yards in the air and 197 yards rushing by the final whistle.

Bridges finished the night 10 for 16 for 255 yards while Bachelor had 4 receptions for 107 yards. On the ground, halfback Brandon Sanderfer carried 17 times for 124 yards and 1 touchdown and Jonathon Franklin had 7 rushes for 73 yards and a touchdown.

Clements receiver Levi Moss hauled in a 6-yard pass from Bridges with 10:35 left in the second quarter. Receiver Jess McElyea also found the end zone, catching a 48-yard strike from Bridges with 5:08 left to cap the scoring.
