Former Athens High School basketball star Richard Hendrix is likely to turn professional later this month, his father said Wednesday.
“From all indications, it looks good,” Venard Hendrix, Athens High School’s head basketball coach said about his son’s position in the upcoming National Basketball Association draft. “We think it’s a good possibility he will go high in the draft.”
Hendrix has already graduated at the University of Alabama and decided last month to enter the NBA draft.
However, the Alabama junior did not hire an agent and can return his senior season at Alabama if he so chooses.
Hendrix was rated one of the top big men in the Southeastern Conference this past season. He was Alabama’s top scorer and rebounder.
At Athens High School, Hendrix was highly recruited by such teams as North Carolina, Duke and Kentucky. He chose the Crimson Tide where he made an immediate impact.
