COXEY – A big second half proved the difference when the Clemens Colts defeated the visiting Lauderdale County Tigers 31-21 Friday night.

Jesse Ray Cobb led the winners with a pair of touchdowns.

“I challenged Jesse to step it up a notch going into tonight’s game,” Colts coach Forrest Williams said. “He did just that. He had a great game. He had some big plays for us when we needed them.”

Cobb’s 4-yard touchdown reception from Cody Arnold and Josh Cooper’s extra point attempt with 2:32 left in the first half tied the game at 14-14.

The visitors jumped to a 6-0 lead when Jeremy Ingram scored on a 4-yard run with 7:50 remaining in the opening period. The Colts blocked the extra point attempt.

The Colts led the first time with 53 seconds elapsed in the second quarter when Josh Eaton caught a 9-yard scoring pass from Arnold. Cooper’s extra point kick gave Clements a 7-6 advantage.

Josh Walton gave the lead back to the Tigers when he caught a 10-yard scoring pass from Ricky Bryant. Trevor Watkins scored the extra points.

Arnold gave the lead back to the Colts in the third quarter scoring on a 22-yard run. Cooper provided the extra point.

In the fourth quarter, Cooper kicked a 20-yard field goal three minutes before Bryant scored on a 68-yard punt return, and Taylor Bryan kicked the extra point for the Tigers.

But it was Cobb’s heroics that assured the Colts of the win. Cobb scored on a 23-yard run and Cooper kicked the extra point for the margin of difference.

“This was a huge win for us as far as the playoffs are concerned,” Cobb said. “I just want to do what I can to help the team win and part of that is working harder than our opposition.”

“It is a big win for us,” Williams agreed. “I thought we played well defensively, but overall it was not one of our better games. We have two more big region games to go and our game next week against Lexington is pretty big.”
