Athens’ Colby Gooch represents local education programs in Montgomery

Colby Gooch, a dual enrollment student in the Machine Tool Technology program at Calhoun Community College and the Limestone County Career Technical Center, recently represented the career technical dual enrollment program at the State Workforce Planning Council in Montgomery.

Colby is a senior at Athens Bible School and the son of Eddie and Jackie Gooch of Athens.

At the council, Colby spoke about the benefits of the career technical dual enrollment program and the scholarship funding he has received from the council and the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development.

He also told council members about the encouragement he has received from his machine tool instructor and the advantages he has gained from participating in career technical dual enrollment.

“Mr. Emerson really encouraged me to enroll in some Machine Tool dual enrollment classes and I took my first dual enrollment course in the 10th grade,” he said. “So far, I have completed seven dual enrollment courses in machine tool and earned 21 hours of college credit. I have also completed two history courses and one English course. I hope to have two additional English courses finished by the time I graduate high school in May.”

Calhoun Community College has received over $525,000 for career technical dual enrollment from the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development. The funds have been used to provide scholarships for students in a wide range of programs including machine tool, electrical and aerospace technologies, drafting and computer information systems and to establish EMT-basic programs with four school systems.
