SALEM —
Alex Taylor isn’t big on stats.
All the West Limestone High junior was worried about Friday night was helping his team win. And he did just that.
Against county foe Ardmore in the Wildcats Class 4A, Region 8 home opener, Taylor finished the night with 12 carries for 220 yards and three touchdowns. He scored on runs of 46, 59 and 80 yards in a 46-24 win over the Tigers.
For his efforts, Taylor has been selected as this week’s News Courier Player of the Week.
Taylor was also recognized Tuesday in this week’s Alabama High School Athletic Association’s spotlight for his performance.
“I just wanted to play, scramble and try and help my team as much as possible,” Taylor said.
Taylor and the Wildcats travel to East Lawrence Friday for another key Class 4A, Region 8 game.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
