— Fred Thomas Glaze, 92, of Trussville passed away Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and 11 older siblings.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Pansy Glaze; daughters, Charlotte Medders and husband Cecil of Trussville, and Marilyn McGee and husband Robert of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister, Martha Hudson of Athens; grandchildren, Kelly McGee of Clemson, S.C., Jason Medders and wife Kelli of Fargo, N.D., Richard Medders and wife Johnni of Springfield, Mo., and Stephen Medders and wife Lauren of Melbourne, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Medders, Callie Medders, Sadie Medders, and Watson Medders; and scores of nieces and nephews.

Fred was a native of Limestone County and graduated from Athens High School. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1942, and fought in Europe with I Company, 36th Armored Infantry Regiment, 3rd Armored Division, during World War II, earning a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.

After the war he graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University), became assistant extension county agent in Madison County, and married his college sweetheart Pansy. In 1953, he became the superintendent of the Auburn University Experimental Field in Alexandria, doing crop research. Later during his career, he served in that same capacity at fields in Aliceville, Prattville and Tuskegee, retiring in 1982.

Fred loved his Lord and savior and served him faithfully through the years in his local church. He enjoyed gardening, playing the harmonica, and keeping meticulous records on his extended family and their descendants, down through his great-grandchildren and his great-great-great nieces and nephews.

The family owes a debt a gratitude to The Village at Cook Springs for their excellent care and to Home Options for their assistance.

His family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel with the service beginning at 2. Burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens.
