Rita Peterson

— A memorial service for Rita Peterson of Athens will be at 4 p.m. today at First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Peterson died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at Huntsville Hospital. Spry Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

She was preceded in death by her father, Dr. W.M. Watkins.

Survivors include her mother, Ruth Watkins of Athens; her husband of 48 years, Don Peterson of Athens; her daughter, Kelly Kelsoe of Athens; her son, Mark Peterson of Virginia Beach, Va.; and five grandchildren, Kathryn Kelsoe, Bradley Kelsoe, Jacob Kelsoe, Liam Peterson and Owen Peterson.

Rita did a superb job of everything she touched from cooking to drama, theater directing, bridge, sewing and garden work. Her loving husband always called her Precious Love. She made a home for her husband and her family that was so warm and cozy that when we would leave to go to work we hated to go and anxious to return home once again.

She was an avid reader, exceptionally bright yet always having a kind word for people who came across her path. Her home has been open for the total of 48 years we’ve been married to people who were homeless, who needed help or any other kind of moral, spiritual or ethical support. She will be terribly missed because she brightened the world in which she interacted..

Rita is right now in the sweet, loving arms of Jesus Christ to whom she and her husband had allegiance all their lives together. We trust Him to know the very best for Rita and thank Him very much for His goodness to us over the years. Truly Rita was a Proverbs 31 woman. Her husband is deeply grateful to our loving God for choosing him to love, nurture and treasure her.
