Martha Pitman

— Martha Ann Fahrubel Pitman, 67, passed from this life Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at home.

Martha was born to Jeanette and Harold Fahrubel on Aug. 23, 1945, in Birmingham. She grew up and lived as a young adult in Balboa Canal Zone, Panama. On Feb. 28, 1974, James and Martha were joined together in holy matrimony in Maplesville. To this union they were blessed with five daughters, six grandsons and two great-grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Melissa Ruth Pitman Thornton; and sister, Jeanine Fahrubel Parsons.

She worked at a variety of jobs but her most important ones were wife, mother and meme. She was best known by those who loved her as “Marty.”

She was a member of Berea Baptist Church in Athens.

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, James Arnold Pitman Jr.; daughters, Darla Ann Mott Tillery and husband Martin of Athens, Deborah Elaine Mott Campbell and husband Keith of Athens, Tracie Lynn Pitman Harrison and husband Nick of Elmore, and Louann Phares Grayson and husband John of Spanish Fort; grandchildren, Jamie Melton, Cory Melton, Caleb Melton, Tyler Mott, Cyle Calvert and Hayden Harrison; great-grandchildren, Jayden Mott and Payton Barnes; and special friend, Vernon Mott.

The graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Roselawn Cemetery with Pastor Pat Lawrence officiating.

Visitation is from 6-9 tonight at McConnell Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Martin Tillery, Keith Campbell, John Grayson, Nick Harrison, Tyler Mott, Cyle Calvert and Caleb Melton.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Robert Pitman, DVM, Lamar Pitman and Hayden Harrison.
