Gwen Wyman

— Mrs. Gwen Wyman was born in the Hawkeye state of Iowa on Feb. 27, 1920, the daughter of Jess and Helen Werner Tomlinson. She lived there for her formative years with her sister and four brothers. After completing her education, she served as a teacher, living in the homes of those she taught.

She moved to California for 19 years and had four children: Nancy Nolan (born 1948), Barbara Shafer (born 1950), Bunny Primacio (born 1952) and Robert Wyman (born 1954). She has five grandchildren, David Hall, Brandi Thomas, Bobby Hall, Michael Shafer and Jennifer Smith, and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Ralph G. Tomlinson; several nieces and nephews.

Her husband’s job required a move to Huntsville in 1963. She became a licensed practical nurse and worked at Huntsville Hospital. Gwen and Bob retired in 1982 and moved to Fairhope.

Bob died in April 2000 and Gwen returned to North Alabama and settled in Athens in 2001.

She was a member of West Highland Baptist Church where she was active in church functions and served as a Sunday school teacher, prayer leader, and mentor.

Mrs. Wyman passed away Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at home. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Bob Wyman.

Services for Mrs. Wyman were at 1 p.m. Monday at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. Burial was in Sardis Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Jerry Smith officiating.

Visitation was from 11 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
