Lynda Sue Thornton, 68, of Athens, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at UAB Hospital in Birmingham.
Mrs. Thornton was born June 6, 1943, in Limestone County, to James A. Allison and Ruby C. Powers Allison.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. Visitation will be from noon until 1:45 p.m. Saturday prior to the service. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery with Demar Elam and Bill Irby officiating.
Mrs. Thornton was a member of Hobbs Street Church of Christ and a longtime nurse.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ruby Allison, and one brother.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Thornton of Athens; two sons, Charles Rodney Thornton and wife Vicki, and Bryan Craig Thornton and wife Kelli, both of Athens; seven grandchildren, Ryan Tucker and wife Dixie, Susan Thornton McMurry and husband Brian, all of Athens, Amber Thornton Roan of Decatur, Matthew Tucker of Savannah, Ga., Kimberly Thornton Traywick and husband Matt of Elkmont, Kyle Thornton and Kasey Thornton, both of Athens; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Billy Allison and Robert Allison both of Iuka, Miss., and Glenn Allison of Chicago, Ill.; two sisters, Betty Rose of Huntsville and Ann Hill and husband Richard of Melbourne, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Tucker, Matt Tucker, Kyle Thornton, Jeremy Braman, Blake Hogan and Ben Hogan.
