Larry Joe Stephens, 68, of Athens passed away Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012. A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Thursday with visitation to follow at Carey Baptist Church, 21550 Looney Road, Athens.
Joe was born July 2, 1944, in Huntsville to Ernia and Wilma Stephens. He was a graduate of Athens High School and an avid fast-pitch softball player, a member of the Alabama National Guard and owner of Stephens Manufacturing Company for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Kaye Wright, and one son, D’Robin Stephens.
He is survived by his son, Patrick Stephens and wife Angie; granddaughter Tisha Kilburn and husband Jason; great-grandchildren, Erich and Jayda and future granddaughter in two months, Hailey Kilburn; five brothers, Jerry Stephens, Scott Stephens, Bud Stephens, Johnny Stephens and Mark Stephens; and two sisters, Jean Touchette and Susie Hargrove.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity in memory of Joe.
