Gene Hartsfield Sr.

— The funeral for Gene Alford Hartsfield Sr., 88, of Athens will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Spry Funeral Home with Eddie Gooch officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery

Visitation is from 1 p.m. until time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Hartsfield died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2013, at Athens-Limestone Hospital.

Gene Hartsfield Sr. was born Jan. 5, 1925, in Memphis, Tenn. He retired from Kimberly-Clark in Memphis. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran.

Mr. Hartsfield was a member of Isom’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Athens.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Annette Hartsfield; brothers, Benton Hartsfield, Maupin Hartsfield and Vernon Hartsfield.

Survivors include a son, Gene A. Hartsfield Jr. and wife Vonette of Athens; daughter, Patricia Ann Thompson and husband Tommy of Lawrenceburg, Tenn.; sisters, Odessa Summers of Horn Lake, Miss., and Irma Roberts of Memphis; grandchildren, Gene Hartsfield III of Athens, Dr. Stephanie Vinson of Cumming, Ga., Clint Hartsfield of Gulfport, Miss., Lindsay Ballard of Pflugerville, Texas and Leigh Ann Bethmann of Orlando, Fla.; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Gene Hartsfield III, Clint Hartsfield, Tommy Thompson and Glen Vinson.

Memorials can be made to Isom’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
