Charles Hudson

— Charles Owen Hudson, 82, of Helena passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012.

Mr. Hudson is survived by his wife of 61 years, Emma Gean Hudson; son, C.A. “Tony” Hudson and wife Brenda; daughter, Wanda Bowden and husband James; grandchildren, Nick Hudson, Christy Little and husband John, Rachel Hudson, John Hudson, Jacob Hudson and wife Brittany, and Jennifer Chappell; great-grandson, Landon Hudson; sisters, Donna Barksdale and Madeline Shanks of Athens. Numerous nephews and nieces also survive him.

Mr. Hudson was preceded in death by his parents, Terry and Lillie Mae Hudson; brothers, J.T. Hudson and Billy Joe Hudson, all of Limestone County; and sister, Wilma Faye Plemons of Columbus, Ga.

Mr. Hudson was born and raised on farms in Limestone County. After serving in the U.S. Army, Mr. Hudson settled his family in the Birmingham area where he worked as a heavy equipment operator for H.N. Donahoo Contracting Company for 40 years.

After retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Hudson lived and enjoyed life in the Nantahala Mountains near Franklin, N.C. Upon relocating back to Alabama, Mr. Hudson became active in the Helena Church of Christ.

Visitation will be Monday, April 23, from 5-7 p.m. at Southern Heritage Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with burial at 11:45 a.m. at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo.
