The graveside service for Mr. John A. Owen, 72, of Limestone County, will be at 5 p.m. today at Round Island Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Green officiating.
Visitation will be from 3 to 4:30 p.m. today at McConnell Funeral Home.
Mr. Owen passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at Athens Rehab and Senior Care Center.
He was born Nov. 9, 1939, in Limestone County to George Owen and Florence Mae Woodward. He was retired from IBM. He loved restoring old cars and was a military gun enthusiast.
He attended Round Island Baptist Church and was a member of First Baptist Church of Athens.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, George Owen Jr.; one sister, Blanche Looney; and one nephew, Phillip Looney.
He is survived by one sister, Ruth Standridge and husband Bill of Decatur; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Jennifer Holmes.
Pallbearers will be Paul Looney, Hugh Looney, Ben Looney, Ross Looney, Dale Standridge, Maurice Kelly and Steve Early.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Round Island Baptist Church building fund.
